The following article appeared in the April 1997 (Volume 1, Issue 4) of the “Muddy Waters Gazette” published by “The Bayou Browsers PC User Group, and is re-printed with thanks).<\/p>\n

LeBlanc Family Reunion Organization has been formed, (Incorporated as Famille de LeBlanc, Inc.) officers have been elected and plans are now underway for members to go forward with the plans for August 1999. An estimated crowd of 6,000 LeBlancs from the world over will gather in Erath, Louisiana to meet friends and relatives and trace their roots back to Nova Scotia, Canada. The Bayou Browsers will be active in this program, promoting the use of computers to enhance every phase of the planning and preparation of the event. Post cards, brochures, home page, cookbook, letterheads, envelopes, iron-ons and many, many more projects will be introduced for the first time to a reunion event such as this one. Famille LeBlanc Inc. is asking any and all to step forward and volunteer for the many jobs that will need to be done before our relatives come down to visit us. A simple thing like selling tickets, giving directions, or just speaking the French language, will be a big asset to the special world event that will take place for the first time in Acadiana. Fortunately, Erath has been approved for the LeBlanc family and Abbeville has been approved for the Hebert family. Russell Gaspard, Joe Hebert, Ed Hebert, Pat Hebert are just 4 of the Bayou Browsers helping us with this program. With the LeBlanc reunion, we also have 4 members of the Bayou Browsers, that are leading the event. They are Relie LeBlanc, Presley LeBlanc, Simon LeBlanc and Allen LeBlanc. Relie has been appointed liaison between Famille LeBlanc and the town of Erath. Presley LeBlanc has been elected President and Simon Secretary. Contacts Sought for CMA; Louisiane Family Reunions<\/h4>\n

Organizers of the family reunions for Congr\u00e8s Mondial Acadien; Louisiane 1999 are telling members of twelve families who have not yet begun to plan for 1999, that it is not too late to do so.<\/p>\n

The following families have not yet organized: Boudreaux, Daigle, Girouard, Melan\u00e7on, Sonnier, Baudoin, Begnaud, Benoit, Credeur, Doucet, Fontenot and Mouton.<\/p>\n

“All we need is one contact person to get a family started,” said Eddie Richard, director of CMA- Louisiane family reunions west of the Atchafalaya Basin. Once a person shows interest, members of the CMA- Louisiane reunion committee, meet with the representative to provide that person with all the information necessary on organizing a reunion.<\/p>\n

“This is not a covered-dish type of reunion where everyone knows everyone,” Richard said. “The CMA- Louisiana reunions are designed to include extensive genealogy and involve family cousins from Canada, Europe, and other parts of the world”, he said.<\/p>\n

For those who are hesitant or fearful about the work involved in such an undertaking, Richard insists that these reunions are easy to organize. “We are prepared to tell families exactly how to go about planning one of these reunions,” he said.<\/p>\n

Richard and members of his committee provide families with guidelines on such things as basic organization, selection of officers, and choice of date and site.<\/p>\n

The reunions are one- or two-day events with full programs that include many workshops on genealogy, informational booths, arts and handicrafts exhibit, and music and dancing. At the last Richard reunion, 1500 people registered and the group hopes to double that number in 1999.<\/p>\n

Richard said that he views the family reunions as a wonderful opportunity for Acadians descendants. “For once, Acadians from all over the world can come together and meet as a function that both honors and recognizes them, instead of putting them down,” he said.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
